Koyasan, Japan

07

One of Japan's most sacred sites, visiting Koyasan was the most anticipated part of my itinerary. Although I wasn't able to experience an overnight temple stay (shukubo, or temple lodging), the serene atmosphere and fresh mountain air was a welcome respite nonetheless. My favourite experience was a quiet walk down the path in Okunoin Cemetery, taking everything in, feeling all the years of history seep through the moss covered tombstones.
