Aix-en-Provence, France

20

Known as the city of water, of art and of a thousand fountains, Aix-en-Provence’s charm is 2000 years in the making. Baroque architecture is all around you while you meander the streets and come upon fountain upon fountain. Turn the corner and stroll through a Provençal market—the markets in Aix are incredibly diverse and of high quality. There’s a market of some sort going on every day—flowers, fruits & vegetables, fabric, antique books, crafts, flea etc. The one we stumbled upon was a craft market, selling artisanal goods, lavender, soaps, handmade products and art pieces. You can also follow in the footsteps of Cézanne, the father of modern painting, as Aix is also home to many historical sites attached to him. You can visit the streets, places and landscapes that inspired him on his creative path.
