Nîmes is proud of is history, both the dark and the great. Its beginnings goes back to the sixth century BC. The Volcae Arecomici, a Celtic tribe, settled around a generous spring and built a sanctuary in its honour. It became romanised in the first century BC, and its great monuments were built. Denim jeans also originated from Nîmes, as the textile industry is tied to its history. It’s actually in the name—de Nîmes… DE NIM. DENIM. Just shocking!
