Toulouse, France

24

Toulouse is warm in all ways—its weather, its atmosphere, its bubbliness, that suggests maybe all there is to life is to live it. Nicknamed La Ville Rose for the colour of its large Roman bricks, tiles and stones that give off unique warm tones, from the softest of pinks to the more flamboyant oranges, Toulouse is exceptional in its architectural heritage. Become enchanted by one of the several canals that go across town: the Canal du Midi, the Canal de Brienne—there is always peace by the waters. They say that Toulouse is the “daughter” of the river Garonne, which comes from its source in the Pyrenees and runs through Toulouse, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. It’s one of the only major cities that reserve its quays and accesses for pedestrians and not cars.
